About the Animal Care and Use Protocol (ACUP)
An Animal Care and Use Protocol (ACUP) is a detailed description of the proposed use of vertebrate animals for research, teaching or demonstration purposes. Please use the ACUP form and instructions as a guide when developing your protocol. Submitted protocols should be complete but succinct, and devoid of unnecessary technical jargon. Submitted proposals that do not adhere completely to the ACUP instructions will be returned to the researcher without review.
The ACUP will be reviewed by the IACUC and returned with comments or concerns, if any, generally within two weeks of receipt. Please note that the proposed work with vertebrate animals must not be initiated until the ACUP is approved by the IACUC, so be sure to allow sufficient time for the review and approval process. Revisions, resubmission and re-evaluation may be required. Once approved, the ACUP is active for three years.
Completed ACUP forms should be sent to the IACUC Chair at iacuc@tcnj.edu.
